The following settings are known to work with Thunderbird.

• imap server: hashnix.club port 143
• imap connection security: STARTTLS
• imap user name: use your unix user name (not your email address)
• imap authentication method: normal password
• smtp server: hashnix.club port 465
• smtp user name: use your unix user name (not your email address)
• smtp connection security: SSL/TLS
• smtp authentication method: normal password

command line email clients

Mutt and Alpine are supported on a best effort basis. We recently repaired inbound mail service and discovered that Mutt and Alpine default configuration needs some overrides to work with our setup. If you have a relatively new account, you probably have a correct .muttrc and .pinerc already.

If you don't have a ~/.muttrc run this command:

cp -p /etc/skel/.muttrc ~/

If you don't have a ~/.pinerc run this command:

cp -p /etc/skel/.pinerc ~/

If you have a muttrc already, run this command:

sed -i -e 1r/etc/skel/.muttrc ~/.muttrc

If you have a pinerc already, run this command:

sed -i -e 1r/etc/skel/.pinerc ~/.pinerc
